Previously byte compiled versions of CC Mode could be shared between
major (X)Emacs versions to some extent. That is no longer the case
since macros are now used extensively to adapt to (X)Emacs specific
features without sacrificing performance.
Ouch... what version should the XEmacs binary cc-mode package be built
with? It's supposed to work with 21.[145].
And just a reminder; javascript-mode.el in prog-modes may break with the
cc-mode update; it uses some ugly kludges that shouldn't ever have
existed. Unfortunately I don't have time to test or work on it at the
moment.
