Yes, all of the major Emacs MUA's have MIME support and don't need TM, but I seem to remember talking with someone recently (read in the last year or so) about TM. They were saying that it is still quite useful outside or MIME for Emacs MUA's. I can't comment on what that usefulness is (I don't even have TM installed).
