NB, fink (or whatever) may be able to just download precompiled
debugging libraries for you. Most Linux distros provide binaries.
My own guess is that we are (once again) allowing an uninitialized (or
NULL-initialized) pointer to get into X somehow. That is a no-no; X
does not seem to grasp the concept of sanity-checking arguments.
