I now made savehist-load do this automatically, so this should no
longer be a problem.

Would you like to commit this update to the CVS repository yourself?
I can't imagine Norbert or anyone else would mind.
Let cvs-manager(a)xemacs.org know, if we need to update your ssh1 or
ssh2 key or both.
