Several others have reported similar symptoms. I looked into it
briefly, and it looks like an attempt to respond to a bogus
SelectionRequest event.
Are you running any kind of clipboard manager, or similar tools? Can
you reproduce the problem in a "bare" desktop environment (e.g. X
server + twm + xemacs + nothing else; no Gnome/KDE/etc)?
I am not running any clipboard manager. I am not running Gnome nor KDE,
either.
What I have on my screen is a full-screen (as in resized to fit the
screen and no window decorations drawn) XEmacs, one XTerm, one Mozilla
window. Windows managed by WindowMaker. I use Alt-TAB switching to
switch focus between the windows.
There is really very little else happening in my X sessions.
