Not at all, indeed. The mechanism was not in there by design. Face
changes were never supposed to affect glyphs.

Yes. For example, the II dirty flag was never cleared at all, although
it was tested against. I now reset this flag after II layout, this is
correct for string instances, but I am not sure for other types.
Let's test.
