I, like John, must beg off from actually doing any _work_ for a while,
but for my two yen, why not a little "button box" down at the bottom
of the page or the sidebar:
+------------+------------+-------------+--------------+-------------+
| | | | | |
| Created in | Organized | Hosted by | Stubborn as | Orange Book |
| XEmacs | by Genpage | SourceForge | any old Mule | Certified |
| | | | | |
+------------+------------+-------------+--------------+-------------+
| | |
| HTML Validated by
www.more-eyes.com | More lies -- click _here_ |

+---------------------------------------+----------------------------+
with the buttons actually being reasonably small PNGs (so all our
sponsors can fit in 1024x64 pixels or so ;-) with links to more
in-depth explanations of why it's all so wonderful?
We could also use a very low-contrast background pixmap behind each
page that looks like a "VALIDATED HTML" watermark.
I certainly agree that we want to proclaim that we care enough to
comply with standards, but we want to do so in a subtle way so that
users notice it once but don't find it obtrusive. That's hard....
