Please David I'm just trying to find what technical problem

is behind the error we are seeing. Feel free to suggest what ever
version string you think is appropriate for the auctex version
build in the package tree.
Just to clarify (if this is not clear by now). Auctex 11.84 which we
tried to release as a xemacs pkg is still under GPLv2. The current 11.85
version, which now (after all the work) could be released quite easily
as a xemacs pkg, is under GPLv3, and therefore cannot be released :'(,
till this license problem is solved.[1].
