Ok, so for some reason this only showed up if you had the toolbar turned
off but had left gutters on. _VERY_ weird. It turns out that the
map_subwindow() method for GTK could get confused and not call
gtk_fixed_put() on a widget before trying to map it (if the widget
allocation & current position were the same).
This also seems to fix the initial strange placement for the notebook
widgets in the gutter. They still don't update competely and flicker quite
a bit, but not as badly.
I am going to go ahead and commit this, as it will only impact us poor GTK
weenies.:)
