I tried out your patch and it did indeed fix the problem I was
having with moving topics in gnus. Also, my test case worked as I
expected (moving the point in the temp buffer did not move point in
the original buffer). I apologize for not being clearer in my
email, I forgot that you had not seen my original bug report.
