William, Of course #define const const is silly and wrong (although it works). If I had thought about it for 2 ms., I would have said change the glyphs-x.c to read: #include <png.h> #undef const This works fine and it compiles cleanly. Didn't get much sleep last night and I guess it shows. (I also do very little C programming these days.) I still don't understand why gcc lets this work. R.
