Actually, it does. I get:

As I wrote earlier, you probably won't be able to use the Options to
select fonts, but you should be able to see the list of available families
in the Options | Font menu. M-x set-face-font should do the trick for
actually setting the font, using the fontconfig FAMILY-SIZE:PARAMS
format. There are actually a couple of obnoxious fonts out there that
have hyphen or colon in their family names: quote those characters with
a backslash.
If you have any problems with choosing or setting fonts, please don't
hesitate to ask.
Also, maximizing xemacs doesn't peg the CPU which was the issue
that
started me down this path.
That's probably a known issue with Metacity, which has been worked
around in the most recent versions of XEmacs. But I would think the
distros have that changeset in them it's probably four or five years old
by now.
