Yes, I've been aware of FSF's `/:' special prefix for quite some time
now, but I've never seen the use for it. Thanks for explaining it.
So, what needs to be done to port it? I think FSF also makes sure
that some high-level commands know about the prefix, and that it is
used automatically when in minibuffer prompts when the
default-directory is something dired-like.
