I doubt you tried it with -nw then.  This looks like a typical
X-related crash.

This looks a lot like the Hannibal Lector ld crash, but you have -z
nocombreloc in the build flags, or the too MuchTif crash (usually
observed on Red Hat), but it's not a Motif build.
So I don't know what's going on, except that despite your insistance
that it's the same binary, I have to wonder since gdb says:
    Lou-yahoo> warning: core file may not match specified executable file.
You could try upgrading.
