If you look in lib-src/ellcc.h (in the build directory), you should see that ELLCC_DLL_CFLAGS is set to "-fPIC", so this flag is being passed to gcc behind your back, as it were. The fact that you and I both have one Solaris box on which this works does argue that it's something specific to the one box, rather than a generic problem with Solaris. Can you verify that the LDAP headers and libraries match on that one machine? For example, can you successfully build other LDAP applications on that machine?
