Confirmed. In the "worst case" I've seen, performance is hideous[*] with
Line
and Column mode as a default when buffer sizes get Akebono sized. XEmacs
with my .emacs is much, much faster. (I haven't done any benchmarking, I'm
still trying to work out portable code so that FSFmacs doesn't corrupt
the buffer).
The area that we're still weak(est) at, performance wise, IMO, is startup time.
At least it's the most noticeable.
Do we still have anyone doing performance benchmarking? We used to have
a test suite for that.
[*] Hideous == greater than 1 minute freezes between keypress and action.
