Without seeing the actual error message you are getting, or any
information about your system it will impossible to accurately
diagnose your problem.
After looking into my crystal ball, sacrificing a couple of virgins
(boy, they're hard to come by these days)
Well, the important thing is never give up trying (and searching) ;)
Sexist jokes aside, I should have known better and include a bug
report. Anyway, after some long strides and with a tip from Andy Piper
(thanks Andy !) I discovered that EFS was not working properly. To
keep a long story short, here's the synopsis, just for the record.
I was on a Linux/Mandrake8.2. For some oculte reasons (see above,
chciken entrials and virgins stuff ;)), in their imense wisdom they
decied to "enhance" the good ol' ftp w/ some kerberos feats, which
apparently made EFS choke. That problem was automagically fixed when
adding an old ftp binary in the system + setting the efs var appropriately.
So, you're magic skills worked somehow :)
Anyway, that's past, and now I'm on to two new problems:
1) Toolbar visibility
Since I honest-to-God HATE the guts of that toolbar I normally (used
to) have it disabled with smth like this in my ~/.emacs:
[...]
(set-specifier default-toolbar-visible-p nil)
[...]
The only problem is that in 21.4.8 this leaves a misterious bogus extra
window around (??). Any idea ? (yes, yes: the configure script output +
proper bug report incl. at the rest of this lengthy mail ;)
2) Most serious: MIME autodecoed in VM problems
Even if I complied in support for most image types (GIF/JPG/PNG/TIFF)
even the most basic types (e.g. a GIF attachemnt) are NOT displayed by
VM anylonger.
( I used to do it w/, among many other VM settings:
[..]
(require 'mime-setup)
(setq mime-editor/split-message nil)
(setq vm-display-using-mime t
vm-send-using-mime t
vm-auto-decode-mime-messages t
vm-auto-displayed-mime-content-types t)
[..]
)
Another synopsis are that 1) w3 is apparently broken and each time I
exit I'm asked to save the "stylesheet" file and 2) I cannot display
HTML tagged mails anylonger
Any vodoo ideas ?
With many thanks (at least for reading this far!)
Florian
(painfully remembering why he upgrades xemacs only each 2 yrs or so)
