Yes. But I'm not sure what you mean by "dialog window failure
problems"; one guess below.
The one reported earlier: e.g., press the compile button, the dialog appears, as the
pointer passes over each button the dashed-line appears near the button border but none of
the buttons respond to a press. Press the 'x' and the dialog disappears and
nothing happnens. Press compile again and the make command executes!
When this first happened under 27b nothing would happen. Then with 28b things worked at
first, but now nothing works. I have fiddled with the window focus preference and the
focus_mode in the metacity configuration but I've had no success.
I am a gnome desktop fan but am considering leaving it soon.

Try with an empty/missing one first, works fine for me that
way. Several GNOME users have reported that turning off
metacity's "focus follows mouse"
behaviour fixes it for them. I can't reproduce the problem at
all under KDE.
None of that has helped me.
