This is a fix for the easier hexl-mode problem. Maybe it's actually
good enough. ;-) I haven't looked at the archive-mode issue yet.
That's probably harder (since often you'll want to decompress the
tar.gz and similar, I think, so it's harder to fix than just appending
"-literally" and updating a docstring :-).
I'm not sure I follow. `archive-mode' is in "arc-mode.el" and supports
the "arc", "lzh", "zip", and "zoo" formats;
`tar-mode' is in
"tar-mode.el" and supports "tar" files.
However, I'm not certain that there is something to append
"-literally" *to*; maybe you would add something to
`file-coding-system-alist', and whatever the corresponding place is
for content (magic number) based coding-system detection (Does XEmacs
have that yet?).
