As described in the attached messages, Francesco has improved etags.
Ben Wing has been doing a fair amount of work on etags, but he's gone
on vacation so it's unlikely he'll be able to do anything until
mid-August.
We would be very happy to have tester reports. Send reports on etags
itself directly to Francesco. Our etags.el differs quite a bit from
GNU Emacs's; please send reports on use of Francesco's etags.el patch
to xemacs-beta as well as to Francesco, so that we'll know if it works
or not. Somebody in the core _should_ try it, but you know how rare
those round tuits are....
There has been some discussion of replacing our etags.el with that of
GNU Emacs. I don't know the current state of that idea, but anybody
who is willing to experiment with it gets double gold stars for
reporting. (Just trying doesn't count ;^)
