I'd like to know whether the XEmacs developer community has seen
any
interest/action toward native graphics support for Mac OS X. By this I mean
substituting Quartz and Aqua for X11. If such an effort is already underway,
I'd like to lend my support if I can. If not, perhaps a developer who is
already familiar with the pertinent portions of the code base could give a
brief overview of how feasible such a port would be, and what steps might need
to be taken to make it a reality. If this is just silly, I won't take offense
to a good whack with a clue-by-four; this is a fairly naive question. My
(cursory) examination of the code suggests there are X11-isms sprinkled
liberally through the code, which might make this type of transformation
inadvisable. On the other hand, I thought it was logical to want my beloved
text editor to be a first-class citizen of my preferred OS.
I've been wanting such a thing for a while as well, but don't have
time to work on it until my current contract finishes in November. At
that point, I'd be happy to help out.
