[Failure] 21.0 "Poitou" XEmacs Lucid on mips-unknown-linux

I just got SGI/Linux installed on my Indy (there's no X server yet). The changes below were suggested by the FSF Emacs 19.34 patch on the SGI/Linux ftp server; FSF Emacs runs in console mode.
