installation (remember, you currently can't download and install
without efs installed, presumably in the usual place). "rm -rf" is
the obvious solution but many users edit the packages directly; they'd
lose their local changes.
This is sadly true. However, I have been careful to move the packages
that I am editing to site-packages; we could make that a policy. And,
instead of rm, what if the present packages were just mv-ed to a new
directory like attic. I guess we would have to make allowances for
multiples like attic.1, attic.2, etc.
