As far as I can tell (from code inspection and tracing), C-x C-b doesn't
call any window-configuration stuff.
Is there a recipe for reproducing the problem? I don't see it offhand.
Recipe, which I just discovered:
$ screen xemacs -vanilla
M-x gnuserv-start RET
C-x C-b
C-a d ;; (this is screen(1) for “disconnect from this session”)
$ gnuclient
C-x C-b
;; buffer list is not shown in the current frame, presumably because it’s
;; shown in the screen’d frame. but that shouldn’t prevent it, and used not
