A couple of cheap shots: What happens if he puts down the mouse and
invokes M-x x-mouse-kill from the keyboard? What window managers are
you running? If he's running Motif, he might try playing with
`x-selection-strict-motif-ownership'.
What are they talking about, can you tell? For example, do you see
the selected text in there somewhere?
