Try restarting the X server. Several people have reported weird
X-related problems on Sun over the past year, and simply restarting
the server has often helped. Don't ask me why, it's just magic.

You will probably get no specific help with this; there are no
developers left with any memory of that release. I believe Sun is
distributing a CD-ROM with a more recent (21.4.x) version of XEmacs on
it.

Modern systems often disable core files by default; typically the
"ulimit" command may be used to enable them.
