Some vaguely related comments: this variable seems to have a different
default in GNU Emacs compared to XEmacs, and this seems like a bad
idea to me. (It's even more "aggressive"--it's a longer list--in GNU
Emacs.)
Also, if I start up a vanilla XEmacs and do
M-x customize-variable completion-ignored-extensions
(or M-x customize-group minibuffer)
why am I told
[State]: this option has been changed outside the customize buffer.
This is perhaps not the most helpful message for new users, who might
wonder what they've done to change this variable.
