A number of different approaches to memory allocation are used by
XEmacs depending on build time switches. Please send us your
Installation file (possibly available via M-x report-emacs-bug or M-x
describe-installation if you can get it running, otherwise it's in the
top directory of your build tree where you ran configure).
Have you tried with xemacs -vanilla? How about xemacs -nw -vanilla?
Please note that if it's an XEmacs bug, it is highly unlikely to get
fixed in the 21.1 series. 21.4 is de facto stable now; pronouncement
is primarily waiting on solving a really annoying performance problem
in fontlock, not on any worries about instability compared to 21.1.
