That's an exaggeration.
It is not necessarily exaggeration. The autodetection is one of
the most important Mule feature. We use files of various coding-
systems, iso-2022-jp, euc-japan, shift_jis, utf-8, etc. Those
files seldom have a coding cookie. Especially, XEmacs 21.5
doesn't work for euc-japan which is used by most unix systems.
There are other Mule-related problems as I reported in the past.
It may be unusable for Katsumi and similar users, but I don't
find
it unusable, and I do use Japanese on a daily basis with 21.5. It's
clear from patch submissions that there are other Japanese users
actively working with XEmacs 21.5.
Eh? Hey other Japanese users, don't you have comments?
XEmacs 21.5 is surely usable if a charset is specified for a
text, like mail messages. But I don't live only for that.
