Definitely not; error-checking has a noticable impact on run-time
responsiveness. This only makes sense for beta testers (who are
signed up for such annoyances, and are likely to have bigger faster
machines anyway).

That would be nice, but unfortunately it adds a noticable amount to
the XEmacs core distribution footprint (about 5%). If the binaries
are stripped, there's little point in --debug, of course.
We would like unstripped binaries built with --debug, but we really
cannot expect it. Nobody else does it.
