The error seemed to indicate that there was some problem with having a MENUBAR. So without thinking deeper about it I removed the GTK configurations, --with-menubars=gtk and --with-scrollbars=gtk, that looked suspicious to me. It then built fine and could at least be started. So falling back to the default for menu- and scrollbars seems to work better. This should get you going. Hopefully someone else can give you a more detailed explanation about whether using gtk for menu- and scrollbar is good and also the status for the xim support.
