the problem with this and everything you've proposed is that there's no
way,

to get at the actual widget that you were invoked from. would you propose
adding
widget-callback-current-widget?
Well, you did originally....
Right now I'm not sure how important it is to get at the widget, although I
can be convinced otherwise.
