Thanks for *your* help! Don't do too much with the path-searching
machinery itself. I have something a bit more comprehensive in my
workspace for that, which I can now finish, I think.
You have seen the original part of the patch - it is comprised of the
setup-paths.el changes analogous to the find-paths.el changes I made
for 21.4.
