The docstring is no big deal, that can be done any time. The
apparently useless references to size, ditto. I think rms's patch
implements incorrect semantics if (not (= (point) (point-min))); it
won't replace the whole buffer.
Thanks for passing it on and testing; I'll probably use rms's patch
for now.
