So I put the configure scripts in the CVS archive then? I didn't think
I had done that, but sure enough, I get the same result.

But the configure scripts have NOT been run! So that isn't the cause of
the problem. Hmmmmmm..... I'm becoming very puzzled, Steve. Is there
any chance that you have a stray ellcc in your PATH?
