I would be more than happy to debug this problem but I just don't know
where to start. Can somebody give me a pointer as to where to look?
When a new frame (tty or X) is created, what function gets called?
Maybe can I trace through that or something.
Thanks for the offer, but your troubles are undoubtedly coming
from the fact Custom does not use specifiers. Custom can't possibly
customize faces under XEmacs completely correctly until it does.
X vs. TTY is one of the things that you can't get right unless you
deal with specifiers.
So there isn't anything to debug, unless you're going to convert
Custom to use specifiers, which doesn't sound like what you have
in mind. Doing this conversion is on the global TODO list... but
you may have noticed that computer geeks are being wooed with
gold bars and slave girls right now, so no one has much time for
free projects.
