You just chose a bad place to start. As I think I said before, the
cockup in sync'ing "syntax properties" from GNU cost me many hours.
Adding code in the area of syntax processing that nobody here
understands is shoving *somebody* into the lion's den. It is full of
both subtle semantics and performance pitfalls.
Adding tests isn't that hard. If you've not done it before, yes, it
will seem forbidding and (probably) underdocumented. But helping
people to add tests (and learn to do it themselves in the process) is
something I will always make time for.
