Here's the fix:
I got tired of the horrible kludges to avoid aliasing problems, and
decide to rewrite some of alloc.c using a slightly more modern coding style.
Okay, this seems to fix things for me. Of course, I've only used the patched
version for a few minutes, but I'll keep using it, and let you know if I have
any problems.
