Verified. I checked if the setting of truncate-lines has anything to
do with it, but it doesn't. :-/
It’s not a problem in 21.4. My Mac is packed up ready for a move at the end
of the month, I can’t go through the various binaries of the 21.5 betas to
figure out when it was introduced. (Since #'goto-char has its own bytecode,
my usual trick of wrapping the function with debug statements doesn’t help;
I think you would need to use GDB to work out what’s going on.)
