Do you have it saved as it came off the wire?
Now I have it, see attached.
Can you "print (char *) (ptr - 10)" at this point and give
me about 20
bytes worth of the output? (I'm not 100% sure of the gdb syntax.)

with XEmacs being crashed :-)

Do you have more of the backtrace?
Yes, see attached.
Note that this is not a perfect example, in that on restarting XEmacs
gnus successfully displayed the message in question, w/o crashing, so
it's an allocation-related problem I guess :-(
