format does not preserve text properties

The (format) function does not preserve text properties, either in the format string or in arguments inserted via %s. An example: (setq s "Hello, world") (add-text-properties 0 (length s) '(face red) s) (format "%s" s) Run these in the scratch buffer, and the result of the format function is *not* displayed in red (even though just displaying s directly does show in red).
