Obviously your fonts are not preserved when you mail out.
So the question is how can I configure quail so that it uses the
second
type of fonts. The funny thing is, I opened greek.el and in the quail
input rules \alpha is displayed using the big font B. However when I
select the input method greek in the buffer appear chars displayed using
font A. I am confused.
Have another look at greek.el. The first set of rules,
which you will probably see in a big font, is the greek-jis input
method, which creates characters in a Japanese charset that includes
the Greek alphabet. After that, there's a second set of rules, which
creates characters in the ISO-8859-7 charset, i.e. real Greek. These
are, indeed, displayed in a rather small font on my systems.
When you cut'n'paste from Wikipedia, the characters are in Unicode,
and they get converted to native MULE charsets according to your
settings. As far as I know, the 21.4 mule-ucs prefers greek to jisx,
so I'm a bit surprised that you see large fonts by cutting and
pasting. (Incidentally, vanilla 21.4 doesn't support cut'n'paste in
unicode, so I guess you must be using Aidan's utf-8 cut'n'paste code?)
Have you done anything to make Japanese a preferred language?
The right answer is to change your greek font to one you prefer.
Using the JISX characters is not the right answer!
Try -misc-fixed-medium-r-normal--20-200-75-75-c-100-iso8859-7
