I'm working on extending face support throughout the X/GTK platform
(to things like menubars and native widgets, and for better support on
toolbars). It's not currently possible, except maybe by seriously
non-portable resource hacking (and I don't have the slightest idea how
to go about tickling GTK into giving that kind of access).
The model I'm using for toolbars is to take advantage of their
implementation in terms of glyphs for the buttons. I'm not sure how
to deal with widgets that are entirely implemented in C yet.
