XEmacs is not supposed to need to have carnal knowledge of $prefix.
We wouldn't happen to be using locate-data-file or similar?

I don't think so. I've tried putting stuff into .cvsignore, but
apparently all that does is keep it from screaming about stuff not in
CVS/Entries.

Why bother? If it's what I think it is, it will just get overwritten
again when I update to Norbert's latest oeuvre. :-)
