no, i think it's not correct, you should be using `bold-italic', not
`bolditalic'.

now i'm on a tty, no X, so i can't try the (custum-set-faces.. part
of your post, but i have the try oblique trick in my custom.el
anyhow, it looks like it's something else, as i have two _different_
font families, lucida sans typewriter for default, italic, and bold
faces, and some ugly courier, that is used for bold-italic
face... i'm wondering if i've got wrong the name of the X resource...
i used
Emacs.bolditalic.attributeFont: \
-*-lucida sans typewriter-semi bold-i-*-*-*-110-100-100-m-*-iso8859-1
is it correct?
