Maybe. However, the frame will tell us the device or console, so we
can deduce the display. This can be done in a Lisp function AFAICS
(ie, I know it's possible, and I see no performance issue, so it's
just a question of UI/API convenience).
Having a consistent API was exactly my reasoning... although at the
moment I'm not aware of any other platform that commonly implements
virtual desktops, there may well be others. So it makes sense to have
these as (read-only) frame properties, rather than simply X11-specific
functions.
