What is needed is a look at the non-null widgets in that chain. There
was a crash reported and worked around in Lisp by the Mitchells in
November or December. That involved incorrect handling of nils in the
menu. IIRC.
I have been able to reproduce this, and am trying to figure out what
is going on.
