Yes - it's kind of immoral to take someone's free software and
improve it with restrictions that mean they can't use your changes,
isn't it;-?
Which the GPL puts a stop to, and mostly successful. Some people don't
like the particular position of the stop.
It's about the situation that the FSF saw itself to be in with regard to
Lucid Emacs code: because of their own copyright assignment policies,
they were quite unable to fold back changes by people with different
views and standards.
That situation amounted in a fair bit of bitching and moaning as well.
Which was not particularly helpful with regard to the overall working
atmosphere.
