I once spent a great amount of time on making the default XEmacs
able
to run standalone. In theory (though very likely not in practice)
this still works. Have you actually tried it?
I'm looking into it in the background. However your report is useful to
me: I have not so much time for the moment. It is still a very
tempting idea, dumping the default files + some kind of configuration.
