Ben> I agree with Andy about not doing a redisplay rewrite now.
I'm willing to defer to people who know about the code as to the
global priority for that.
My point was that speed is nice, but IMO it's not the main need.
Personally I can live without improving speed or table display, but
the latter is far more important to me. (And the most important is to
stop blocking on DNS lookups[1], but that's unconnected to redisplay.)
Ben> Use Mozilla.
I do, but Mozilla is just not a satisfactory environment for content
development. Among other things, it keeps crashing when I work with
Japanese form inputs (actually, it's probably not Mozilla, but Motif).
I haven't tried with Mozilla 4, but from everything I hear, Mozilla 4
on Linux with the "muriyari patch" (literally, "do the insane thing"
patch; the patch that allows Japanese input) is about as stable as
Windows 3.0.
I'd much rather look at slightly misaligned tables in w3.el than at
the beautiful picture of Mt. Fuji in the root window---where Mozilla
used to be.

[1] Dunno if this matters to anybody else; if this university would
spend a reasonable amount of money on good net admins, it probably
wouldn't matter to me, either.
